The ECA is an association
of contractors designing and installing the electrical engineering
services needed in homes, schools, hospitals, factories, industrial
plant and commercial premises.
This includes the
design, installation, inspection, test and maintenance of
such electrical systems as power, lighting, telecommunications,
control, security, smoke detection, data, environmental etc.
The ECA has over
2000 member firms which range from local employers with only
a few electricians to national multi-service companies with
many branches employing thousands - many operating worldwide.
ECA members have
a collective annual turnover in excess of £2.7 billion
- 80% of all the electrical installation work undertaken in
England, Wales and Ireland. Scotland has its own ECA of Scotland.
ECA
companies employ over 50,000 people of whom 30,000 are qualified
and graded electricians. They employ and support on average
an additional 10,000 apprentices through their training programmes
to qualification.
